The Forest – Into the Quiet of the Forest
There is something about the forest that has always drawn me in. The stillness, the shifting light, the scent of the trees and the feeling of being surrounded by something much older and larger than ourselves.
When I created The Forest in 2016, I wanted to explore that feeling — not only the forest as a physical place, but also as an inner landscape.
The painting grew from layers of natural, earthy tones and a desire to capture the quiet strength I experience when walking among trees. There is a raw, almost primal energy in the forest, yet at the same time it can offer an extraordinary sense of calm.
For me, these apparent opposites belong together.
Stillness and movement.
Darkness and light.
Strength and vulnerability.
I wanted The Forest to carry some of that tension while remaining a place in which the eye can rest — an invitation to slow down, wander for a moment and perhaps discover something unexpected.
Nature continues to be an important source of inspiration in my work. I rarely try to reproduce what I see. Instead, I am interested in the feelings, memories and movements that remain after experiencing a place.
The Forest is part of that continuing exploration.
