Les Petits Bleus – Diptych – Original Oil Paintings on Linen

An exploration of blue, space and connection

Les Petits Bleus is a diptych born from my long-standing fascination with the extraordinary intensity of Klein Blue.

I have been drawn to this particular blue for many years. There is something almost fluorescent in the way I experience its intensity – a colour that seems to radiate from within while at the same time creating a remarkable sense of depth and space.

Working with the colour across two separate canvases allowed me to explore how blue can shift in character through variations in form, surface and composition.

The colour also carries an important art-historical resonance. International Klein Blue became closely associated with French artist Yves Klein, whose experiments with ultramarine blue in the 1950s and early 1960s explored ideas of immateriality and the infinite.

In Les Petits Bleus, I wanted to bring this intense blue into my own visual language. The two paintings are individual works, yet together they create a dialogue – two blue spaces that meet, respond to and balance one another.
