Exploring the shifting light of gold
Floating Spaces grew from my fascination with gold – its luminosity, its changing nuances and the way its surface seems to shift with the light.
In this work, I wanted to explore gold not simply as a colour, but as something that carries both visual intensity and a long cultural history. In ancient Egypt, the colour and radiance of gold were associated with the sun and the divine, and the flesh of the gods was believed to be made of gold. In imperial China, yellow became closely associated with the emperor and imperial authority.
Against this historical resonance, I have created a number of floating spaces within structures of gold. They seem to move independently, yet remain connected, creating a balance between movement and stillness, structure and openness.
For me, Floating Spaces is also about finding a point of balance – a space for contemplation and meditation within movement.
